Welcome

InternetBar has been working with their partner institution IBOinstitute on The InternetBar ODR Training and Certification Project to create:

1.       A set of training programs for Online Dispute Resolution (ODR)

2.       A certification process for ODR mediators

3.       A set of best practices for ODR mediators

InternetBar and IBOinstitute seeks the input of the ODR community and has created this wiki to get your input on a variety of questions relating to these aims. We ask that you explore the content in the links below and give us your input by clicking the "edit" button towards the top of each page, and then inserting your own ideas, graphics, text, or changes on each topic.  When you are done editing a page, click the "save" button.

You will find more information and a longer description of this project on the following page: The InternetBar ODR Training and Certification Project

Benefits and Best Practices

Why do InternetBar and IBOinstitute believe that ODR training programs and certificate programs are important? It's simple: because of the benefits ODR provides. To make ODR a practice which is accepted, we believe that the ODR community must demonstate that it has thought about and developed Best PRactices. This next Wiki page may be of particular interest to those with backgrounds in harmonizing laws, participating in standard setting processes, establishing certification programs, working in areas of international governance, and anyone who is interested in developing a set of best practices: What are the benefits of an ODR certification program?

Having begun to establish the benefits of ODR and promote Best Practices, why  are InternetBar and IBOinstitute working to create training programs? This next Wiki page addresses these topics:  Why are ODR training programs needed? Why should we create a certification program?  This page offers an exploration of the ongoing battle between those who believe ODR is necessary and those who don't, as well as the need for standardization. All input is welcomed.

This next page Best Practices for ODR  attempts to create a blue print for best practices for ODR third party mediators from which we can draw up training programs and our certification process. It currently lists areas of concern and topics that should be addressed in outline format. We would love input  on the issue of best practices for ODR in three forms:

    1. Submit your own set of best practices for ODR in totall, for ODR in a specific region of the world, or for ODR as it relates to a specific industry.

    2. Add to this outline, or comment on aspects of the outline.

    3. Flesh out the outline with text, offer your expertise or experiences as they relate to any of the subjects or areas listed.

Creating the Program

In order to create the most useful and effective ODR training and certification programs InternetBar and IBOinstitute need to know what YOU want, and what YOU need out of an ODR  course. InternetBar and IBOinstitute want to ensure that these programs have direct, immediate, and cutting edge applications to real-world problems in real world settings. In order to do that the following questions must be addressed:

    1. For those just getting into the ODR field, what are you hoping to get out of an ODR training program?

    2.
For those already active in the ODR field, what would have been helpful to know from the start? What do you still feel that you need training in?

    3.
What type of certification should be offered? What should be the educational requirements of third party mediators?

    4.
What training programs already exist? What problems have they already addressed?
